PAW

Foster parents must be at least 19 years old and willing to dedicate the time and care needed for an additional dog or cat in their household. Responsibilities include providing transportation to and from shelters, offsite adoption events, and vet clinics as necessary.

Fosters are expected to offer food, water, shelter, basic obedience training, and a safe environment for the animal. It’s important to recognize the emotional bond that can develop while caring for a pet daily and consider this before committing to fostering.

All procedures regarding adoption and routine care must be followed to ensure the safety and well-being of the animal. Fostering is a rewarding experience that truly changes lives, both for the pet and the foster.

Fostering

Who Needs Fostering?

These are animals rescued and needing temporary homes before transport:

  • Short-Term Care: Average time is 2–6 weeks; may include vet visits; all ages and breeds.
  • Too Young to Be Adopted: Puppies and kittens under 8 weeks need fostering until old enough (2–6 weeks). Vaccinations and check-ups at shelters may be required.
  • Special Needs Animals: Scared, ill, or underweight animals require extra care and socialization. Commitment time varies, and follow-up shelter visits may be necessary.

Foster Until Adopted:
Animals stay in foster homes long-term until adoption, freeing shelter space. Foster homes host adopters for visits while the shelter promotes the animal on platforms like Facebook and Petango.

Bringing a Foster Animal Home:
Fill out an application and ensure the foster pet suits your lifestyle. Supplies are provided as available and must be returned after fostering. Foster parents may handle costs or return the pet if expenses exceed shelter resources. Heavenly Orphans oversees all adoptions or transfers, providing guidance throughout the foster process.
